Сложно сказать что за черные ягодки, похоже на какую-то разновидность черноплодной рябины по листьям... у меня из этого живая изгородь с соседом Питером:)

As you know, your flower arrangements always inspire me. :D My favorite is the oriental setup with the Chinese lanterns! I love those things. There is a wild variety that grow here, when they are ripe the shell is golden or beige colored. I like to eat the berries, though they have a peculiar taste.

...I didn't know, that the berries of the "lanterns" are eatable! More than that, I made Sasha to wash hands after he destroyed a couple of the "lanterns" to see what's inside (oh child's curiosity!:)) because I was afraid that they might be poisonous... many of the beautiful things are!:)

It is always good to be safe when berries and plants are concerned. WHen I was young I was confused about these berries and the berries of horse nettle. I gave my cousin a handful of horse nettle berries, he chewed them, but spit them out because of their bad taste. I don't think they would have killed him, but he may have been sick.

Anyway, the Chinese lanterns are a different species than the ones that grow here, but the berries are all eatable. But, they are in the same family as the tomato(nightshade family), and the leaves of the plant can be used as a hallucinogen.
