Ah, sweet nostalgia! : This is something from my early childhood, a wonderful Soviet take on Alexandre Dumas, père's novel. Basically, it's not a movie, but a three pieces tv mini-series, but every normal Russian would call it a movie. A whole pleiad of wonderful actors, great music, lots of humor, yet not a step away from the book.

Ones again, the awesome soviet tv series. English experts call them "the most "authentic" take on the Sherlock Holmes mysteries", mind it. Ones again, great actors - and the most wonderful music, Vladimir Dashkevich's - cinema-symphony 'Sherlock Holmes'. And not a word "not by the books".

A story about a Good (tough) Guy, who was trying to save a girl (a nurse whom her co-worker Bad Doctor made a drug user), and had payed with his life for it. Starring my favorite russian rock-singer Victor Tsoi (who had died in 1990 in a car accident).

A rare beauty in the north, she's the finest lady on earth... Awwwwww...
Well, it's the most sappy romantic movie on earth. Seriously. Now I can say that Takeshi Kaneshiro is one of the sexiest men living, and Andy Lau is also not bad, even though he is a bit out of my age range (but his role-Captain Leo - my fav character there, by the way - is not:)); that Wuxia genre is freakin' unbeatable (in case if you didn't get it yet:)), that "the beauty song" is a classic of chinese poetry... But the fact is that in my opinion it's the most romantic movie ever: love and death on the most beautiful background. And lots of martial arts. And Takeshi Kaneshiro...khm, guess I'd mentioned him already;)

Gohatto (taboo)
Japanism ... such a sophisticated stuff!;)) Shinsengumi. Ryuhei Matsuda. Tadanobu Asano. Yaoi... errr... I mean shudo;) So many of the attractive elements. Beat Takeshi as a vice-commander (not a gangster boss) is also something to see. It's a director's (Nagisa Ōshima) movie, so it's stylish and dramatic. For some reasons Kanō Sōzaburō character reminds me of myself at the same age - 18. At some point I cut out a couple of strands on my temples so my hair would look like "youth's locks" of a japanese boy. Ones again - love and death.... yes, I prefer my romance with blood, please!>:)

Since my f-list is small, and most of my friends know me pretty well, I got just one question from scowling_hermit, about this one.

Well, it's just another of my japanese dolls userpics. It's a Hakata doll, portraying a Kabuki actor in a role. I love the make-up and the expression:)
