Kokeshi - Young Lord Patch

Life of this kokeshi started with a tragic accident: Sasha (it was initially his karate fighter project) messed up the doll's face. So I gave poor thing an eye patch and turned him into an aristocrat to compensate the shock. Still, he is the saddest kokeshi ever. I named him Lord Patch. He dwells in a spooky dusty castle filled with ghosts and memories. He is 2,5" (6cm) high.
ps. Yes, I thought about Ciel Phantomhive - but I have Sebastian of the same size, so I'll paint a smaller figure as Ciel some time.

В самом начале его кукольной жизни с этим кокеши прозошёл трагический несчастный случай: Сашка (изначально это был его проект - каратист) испортил случайно куклёнку личико. Так что пришлось мне спасать бедняжку, дать ему повязку на глаз и аристократический титул в утешение. Но всё равно - это самый печальный кокеши на свете. Я назвала его Лорд Пэтч, он живёт в пыльном мрачном замке, где витают привидения и воспоминания. Ростом он 6 см.
Да, я думала при Сиэля Фантомхайва, конечно, но у меня есть Себастьян такого же размера, так что я лучше найду для Сиэля фигурку поменьше.

Kage as a noble warrior of the past.
Kage is my original character; normally he looks like this.
He is a romantic type, and wanted to be portrayed as a classical samurai. Too bad for him that I didn't feel like doing a Japanese armor, so he ended up being nearly shirtless instead :)... Hope he won't catch a cold there on the Hokusai wave background (and that master Hokusai won't turn in his grave:)

Кагэ - мой Kage original character, и обычно он выглядит как-то так. Будучи романтичным персонажем, он желал быть изображённым как классический самурай, но вот беда, не было у меня настроения рисовать ему доспех. Так что для классичненького вида пришлось наоборот его немного раздеть... Надеюсь, он не простудится там на фоне хокусаевских волн (а так же, что Хокусаи не перевернётся в гробу:)

New Art - Kage-poet

The name is Kage (Tomoyuki Miller (the last name is usually pronounced "Mira") in the secular world:). The guy is a half-Japanese/half-English by the blood, lives in Tokyo [alternative word], just defended his doctorate degree thesis on Japanese poetry of VI-VII cc., a published poet himself. Mira-san is a reserved, outwardly restrained, a bit of strange type of person (as expected from a poet) to everyone knowing him from that side of his life. But he has another one, where he is known as Kage [means "Shadow"]. Kage is a professional assassin of the highest degree, his silent instruments of trade are a katana and a stiletto. Again, reserved, restrained... and bloodthirsty. Yes, this guy is not quite adequate.

gerie_aren and yours truly Kage's world is a highly developed one, with a lot of the interesting characters, whom I am drawing now and then. Still, I felt kinda guilty for not portraying the main chara since forever. There will be one more picture soon... I hope... yeah :)

Кагэ (в миру - Томоюки Миллер; фамилия как-правило произносится "Мира") по крови полу-японец полу-англичанин, живёт в Токио [альтернативный мир], только что защитил докторскую диссертацию по японской поэзии VI-VII вв., сам публикуемый поэт классического плана. Мира-сан известен как человек тихий, исключительно сдержанный и чуток странноватый (от поэта, собственно, никто другого и не ждёт). Но у него есть и другая сорона жизни, та, в которой его зовут Кагэ ("Тень"). По эту сторону он профессиональный убийца высокого класса, всегда наверняка и бесшумно работающий катаной и стилетом. Опять же, бесстрастный, сдержанный... весьма пугающий. Да, с мозгами у чувака не в порядке, и весьма.
Так вышло, что благодаряgerie_aren и искренне вашей, альтернативный мир, в котором обитает Кагэ, оказался очень хорошо развитым и населённым множеством интересных персонажей, которых я зарисовываю порой - но до главного героя у меня руки долго не доходили - наконец дошли. Скоро будет ещё картинка... я надеюсь... типа вот:)

Guess I've mentioned that Oni had eaten my brain, one of them, in particular. Yes, this guy. So... he did:)
I decided on his story and stuff, but I wont tire you with it. Just take a look at him, and you'll most likely figure it out :)

How to create your own monster: just listen to a lot of Onmyou-za, and have a Kwaidan (Japanese ghost stories) as your bed-time book, and there's a big chance that one night you'll wake up
So yeah, meet my latest original character. The guy would introduce himself as Kusashi (Musashi? - no relations!;)), but he is more known as Akuma (Devil). He is an Oni. Akuma is rather miniature by stature (for an Oni), very fair-skinned (for an Oni), kinda good-natured (for an Oni), and a bit too much intelligent (for an Oni) - all of which, basically, would be right opposite by the human measures:) However, all those qualities allow him to pass for a human. So he had mastered his fighting skills with sword instead of a traditional for Oni club; combed his wardrobe, and table manners a little bit, and now leads a life of a wandering ronin. Still, the guy is an Oni and it's not wise to mess with him; he didn't get his nickname just for his lovely eyes.
I am not sure yet, if this character will get the story of his own, or if he'll became a lyrical digression to history from Kage's story that takes place in an alternative word, where the folklore monsters do exist in secret, mimicking humans ... We'll see.
The only thing is clear for now: he is the one of those annoying OCs, who dictate their will to the author. For example, this guy refused to wear a Mugen-like garb that had in mind for him; no, he wanted a haori, and made me to work for hours on all those folds and shades of the sleeves. Grrr, another smart guy (as if Arashi wasn't enough)...

Как вывести своего собственного монстра: очень просто - если будете, как я, слушать много Онмё-за и читать на ночь Кваидан (японские сказки про привидений), то вполне возможно, что однажды ночью вы проснётесь с
Вобщем, знакомьтесь, мой новый оригинальный персонаж. Сам он обычно представлястся как Кусаши (-никакого сходства с Мусаши!:)), но больше известен как Акума (Дьявол). По крови парень - Они. Акума миниатюрен (для Они), светлокож (для Они), мягок характером (для Они), и немножко слишком умён (для Они) - но по человеческим меркам всё это следует понимать с точностью до наоборот :) Тем не менее эти его качества позволяют сойти за человека, посему, сменив традиционую для Они палицу на меч, причесав немножко свой гардероб и манеры, Акума ведёт жизнь странствующего ронина. Тем не менее он остаётся демоном, и связываться с ним мягко скажем, не безопастно; своё прозвище он получил не за красивые глаза.
Пока не знаю, будет ли у этого персика собственная история, или это будет лирическое отступление в историю мира Кагэ, происходящую в альтернативном мире, в котором мифологические существа тайно существуют, мимикрируясь в людей... Посмотрим.
Пока ясно только то, что у меня завёлся очередной упрямый-раздражающий персонаж, диктующий свою волю аффтару. Стало понятно, когда этот чувак отказался носить Мугенообразный прикид, в который я, было, собиралась его нарядить, и потребовал себе хаори, в результате чего мне пришлось часами

Well, I felt like drawing "a soft side of a tough guy" picture, also, wanted to do something with concentration not only on a character's face, but rather on pose, sort of to make the pose to work as an expression, if you know what I mean.
Kage doesn't look that tough, but the appearance is deceptive. He has kinda contradictory personality.
In the day time Tomoyuki Miller (the last name is usually pronounced "Mira") is a graduate student of University of Tokyo; his field is language and literature, and right now he is working on his doctoral thesis on Japanese poetry of 17-18 centuries. He even has a couple of books of his own haiku poems published.
In the night world the same guy is known as Kage (Shadow). He is a high-class assassin.
In his nigh-life adventures Kage learned a lot of secrets the world he lives in. For example the fact, that there are lots of people - all kind of people, from respectable businessmen to the professional rock-musicians - that only appear to be humans. There are kitsune, tanuki, tengu, were-cats, vampires and all sorts of mythological creatures walking in a big city's crowd, looking just like other people: restaurant chiefs, reporters, housewives, school kids... There are other secrets as well.
So yes, Kage has a busy life. Doesn't he deserve a little bit of rest?:)
Oh yes, there was another bit of inspiration - visual one. I think there was something [anime-ish] with an alike composition - a guy sleeps, a night light on the floor besides him - that got stuck in my mind, only I can't remember what exactly it was - a picture, a fragment from a manga, or may be it was a scene from an anime? So if you have a feeling "I've seen it before" - you probably right...

Хотелось нарисовать что-то из серии "мягкая сторона жОсткого парня", а заодно что-то такое с концентрацией скорее на позе, чем на лице персонажа.
Кагэ не выглядит таким уж пуленепробиваемо-жОстким, но внешность обманчива. Он вообще личность весьма противоречивая.
Днём Томоюки Миллер (там, где он живёт, его фамилия обычно произносится "Мира") - аспитрант Токийского университета, изучающий язык и литературу. Сейчас он работает над своей диссертацией по Японской поэзии 17-18вв. У него даже опубликована пара собственных сборников стихов хайку, получивших положительную критику.
В ночном мире он известен как Кагэ (Тень). Кагэ - наёмный убийца высокого класса.
Во время своих приключений по эту сторону Кагэ узнал много секретов мира, в котором он живёт. Например тот факт, что множество людей - самых разных людей от уважаемых бизнесменов и до профессиональных рок-музыкантов - на самом деле людьми только выглядят. В толпе большого города, ничем не отличаясь от обычных людей: поваров, журналистов, домохозяек, школьников, кого угодно - ходят кицунэ, тануки, тенгу, кошки-оборотни, вампиры и другие существа, которые, как считается, встречаются только в сказках и легендах.
Вобщем, у бедняги Кагэ насыщенная жизнь, и он заслужил немного отдыха:)
Да, если вам кажется, что "где-то я уже это видел(a)" - возможно, так оно и есть. Кажется, я где-то видела что-то анимешное, с похожей композицией: чувак спит, рядом на полу лампа с мягким светом - и оно застяло у меня в голове. Но вот что это было - чья-то картинка, строчка из манги, или действительно сцена из какого-то аниме - этого я вспомнить не могу...

New Art - hungry stalker

Arashi, the Demon Hunter is standing on a hilltop, looking for a prey.
After his encounter with a demon, that had turned Arashi into what he is, the demon hunter got this "consume a corpse" ability that helps to restore his physical strength and energy... It looks [slightly] better, than it sounds, still... slashing the victim's chest open, putting his hand inside... yummy, isn't it?>;) Well, surviving in the Dark Wastes is not for the picky eaters.
Anyway, this ability allows Arashi to travel far into the Wastes without carrying much of the supplies on him. Sometimes, though it could play a bad trick on him, when he needs to fuel up, but no demons, dead or alive, are to be found... So yeah, here we have a hungry stalker, looking for "food".
Actually, I wanted to make a "battle mode" dynamic picture, but this guy has a personality of his own, so he simply refused to be dynamic.

ЕщО картиночег про Араши.
У моего охотника на демонов имеется одна удобная такая особенность, наследие от давнишнего столкновения с созданием из другого мира, после которого Араши приобрёл некоторые совершенно не человеческие способности, как "пожирание трупов" (что звучит немного более дико, чем оно есть на самом деле). Тем не менее аппетитного всё равно мало: рассекается грудь жертвы, внутрь засовывается рука, труп опадает чёрными хлопьями, Араши
Вобщем, вот, мой суровый и несправедливый персонаж, озирает окрестности в поисках
...Последние шаги к вершине дались тяжело. Араши втащил себя на холм , расправил плечи, и оглядел расстилающиеся под ним Пустоши. Сколько мог видеть глаз, нигде не было ни следов монстров, ни намёка на движение среди каменных формаций. Плохо, даже очень плохо. Конечно он знал, что сам виноват, что перед тем, как начинать очередной поход вглубь Пустошей, надо было свернуть в пограничный городок и запастись там провизией и другими нужными вещами. Но ближайшим городом оказался тот, где ещё недавно жила Цубаки, девушка с именем цветка, и Араши не захотелось растравлять себя неизбежными воспоминаниями... ну и дурак. Ему следовало бы помнить, что сентиментальный охотник - мёртвый охотник... Или скоро будет мёртвым, если немедленно не найдёт что-то, кого можно было бы сожрать. Непохоже было, что он найдёт что-нибудь здесь... Араши огляделся по сторонам в последний раз и поплёлся вниз по склону.
Сперва он уловил - скорее почувствовал, чем увидел - какое-то движение за левым плечом, и повернулся как раз во время, чтобы увидеть возникший из-за груды камней гротескный четырёхрогий силуэт. Серый Дьявол, один из наиболее опасных видов демонов Пустошей - теперь понятно, почему Араши не почувствовал его. Охотник на демонов был обязан своими сверхестественными способностями столкновению с одним из этих монстров; чувствуя присутствие любого другого вида демонов, Араши никогда не мог вычислить Серых Дьяволов, пока они не попадали в поле зрения.... Плохо, очень плохо. С Дьяволом и так -то весьма не просто справиться, а в его нынешнем состоянии Араши его шансы практически сводились к нулю. Араши выругался и рванул меч из ножен...

Mysterious Captain Nekura is piloting "Black Sakura", one of the fastest, largest, and most powerful airships in the world, a marvelous hybrid of european engineering and oriental aesthetic principles. The captain is quite a contradictory person, being a product of a very far-eastern upbringing (in fact, he is a yakuza of a yakuza family clan!), yet his heart belongs to aeronautics and the western culture. The captain is clever, brave, and cunning man, and his outfit always looks like a picture from the latest edition of a "fashion for gentlemen" magazine, -but he also is short-tempered, cruel, and values human life surprisingly low even for an Asian.
Captan Nekura has two passions in life: "Black Sakura" and Lady Yamada, the airship's owner, a sophisticated aristocrat with some unexpected twists of personality, who had entered the captain's life a few years ago to change it forever...
The captain appearance is based on singer/actor Koshi Yamada.

Капитан смел, умён, и проницателен, а костюм его всегда выглядит как картинка из последнего выпуска журнала мод для джентельменов - при этом он хитр как лис, обладает в высшей степени нетерпимым характером, жесток, и ценит человеческую жизнь удивительно низко, даже для азиата.
В жизни капитана есть две страсти: корабль "Чёрная Сакура", и леди Ямада, владелица корабля, утончённая аристократка с довольно странными заходами, появившаяся несколько лет назад в жизни капитана, чтоб изменить её навсегда...
Базой для внешности капитана послужил японский певец и актёр Коши Ямада.

I haven't been to toy stores for a while.... this doll was too cool to resist. By the strange coincidence I was wearing black-and-pink today, too...:)) There's another cute one in the series, named Frankie Stein, the same style. If I only this type of dolls existed when I was a little girl, I am sure I'd play with dolls, instead of my toy soldiers and weapons...

Гы, у охотника на демонов Араши завелась подружка (ну, типа). Мстительная я нарисовала их кавайненькими анимэшками :P
Надеюсь что как-нибудь найду время нарисовать её в реалистичном (ну, типа) стиле.

Well, the guys like Arashi just can't have it nice'n'easy, so his "object" is a magic user, something in between Howl (from Miyazaki's "Howl's moving castle") and Tia Dalma (from "Pirates of the Caribbean"). She wasn't eager to give him her name when they first met, so he started to call her Karasu (Crow), and the nickname stuck to her.
Ones a metropolis-dweller, now Karasu with her two cats lives a nomad's life in the Dark Wastes (the most dangerous, deserted region, where the monsters from parallel world are breaking in regularly), in her Wandering Oasis. The Oasis is a sort of a "magical bubble", that temporarily brings up the water that could normally be find in the wastelands only underground, and creates a micro-climate in a small space. The place is heavily protected by Karasu's spells, one of which prevents monsters, people and animals of finding the Oasis more than one time - yet Arashi keeps to stumble upon it again and again. Karasu, who is sick of the people in general, is not overly happy about it, especially because her runes and cards told her, that she and Arashi are meant to be together. It's not that she doesn't like him, is afraid of his supernatural abilities, or really prefers to live alone - it's his dangerous life style, and her unwillingness to develop a bond. She knows that there's no way to go around one's karma, yet she'd love to go around it... So she's often in this mood when Arashi is near. As for him- he has feelings for her, and keeps trying... good luck, man:)

Представляться ему при первой встрече она не пожелала, и он стал называть её Карасу (Ворона), прозвище приклеилось.
Когда-то обитательница метрополии, теперь Карасу живёт одна, со своими котами в своём Блуждающем Оазисе, кочующем по самой опасной и неблагополучной части мира, известной как Тёмные Пустоши, где граница между мирами нарушена, подверженной переодическим вторжениям демонов из параллельного мира. Блуждающий Оазис - магически созданный и поддерживаемый Карасу "купол", в котором вода, которая на Пустошах как правило есть только под землёй, поднимается временно наверх, и создаётся маленькое пространство с микро-климатом. Место тщательно защищено магически; например одна из чар предотвращает вторичное нахождение Оазиса человеком, зверем, и монстрами равно... только вот Араши каким-то чёртом умудряется натыкаться на него снова и снова. Не сказать, чтоб Карасу была от этого в восторге: она устала от мира и людей, а кроме того её карты и руны сказали ей, что они с Араши предназначены друг другу судьбой. Не то, чтоб он ей не нравился, отпугивал своими демоническими характеристиками, или чтоб ей так уж было важно всё время жить самой по себе - но и строить связь, да ещё с человеком ведущим опасный образ жизни ей сильно не хочется. Вобщем, с одной стороны - против кармы не попрёшь, с другой - всё-таки хочется, поэтому Карасу присутствии Араши вечно в непоняточках. А он что - он продолжает приходить, чувства у него... вобщем, удачи тебе, мужЫк!;)

New Art - Arashi the Demon Hunter
Jul. 27th, 2010 12:20 amThis character... this guy.... this... Well, I never had that much trouble with any other of my characters, and quite rarely - with such a simple one-figure picture. Seriously. Of course, you, my artistic, creative friends, know that every "alive" original character is always somewhat interacting with their creator, sometimes even slightly correcting their image, stuff like that. But this guy is a serious control freak. He is not "slightly correcting", he is dictating his will. I re-worked his face three times. Comparing to him Zmeifen the Dark Mage (who also has a hell of personality) is a well-brought-up school boy.... The only good thing that Arashi is not really into fashion so he agreed on this simple outfit... or may be he is just smart enough, and understood, that if he'll ask for an elaborated one the picture will never be finished?:) Anyway, here he is. I am not too happy with the pic, but I guess it's ok.

Этот персонаж.... этот тип... этот... Вобщем, ТАК мне трахаться не приходилось, кажется, ещё ни с одним из моих персов, и редко с какой другой однофигурной картинкой было столько возни. Конечно вам, мои артистичные-креативные друзья, знакомо, когда свежесозданный персонаж начинаает как бы в диалог со своим создателем, и даже, случается, слегка корректирует свои собственный образ, так? Ну вот так этот тип не "слегка корректирует", а нагло диктует. Я трижды лицо переделывала:/ Мой тёмный маг Змейфен (тоже обладатель того есчо характера) по сравнению с этим другом - просто ангелочег... Единственное что в Араши есть положительного, так это то, что ему на одежду пофих, согласился носить простой прикид.... а может, он просто умный и понял, что если потребовать что-нить навороченное, то терпению моему придёт закономерный зе энд и картинку я никогда не закончу?:) Как бы то ни было - я его домучила. Не сказать, чтоб я была очень счастлива, как оно вышло - но мне уже, признаццо, было плевать, так что давайте считать, что всё ок.

New Art - Black Cherry
Jun. 6th, 2010 03:16 pm...And the whole week long I wanted to draw. And the whole week I didn't have no time nor energy for it. So the last night just I sat until morning and made a picture.
Meet Black Cherry, one of the characters from Kage's story. Sweet, romantic, androgynous-looking, cheongsam-wearing Chinese, Cherry is a frontman and singer in a rock group (and probably a close relative of Count D from Petshop of Horrors;). His vocal is strong, rather high, and reach with gentle undertones, and "whispering" intonations. Black Cherry is the most popular member of the band and a fan-girls' magnet, which Cherry founds to be very handy: he is a vampire.

In case if you were managing to trace the outlines of the story and now are curious... BC is the vocalist of the group where Amatsuki, Kage's romantic interest is playing. All the members of the band are supernatural beings, yes - humans living next to what only seems to be humans is the main feature of the alternative world where the story takes place. So the group has beautiful vampire Cherry as a front figure and vocalist, a kitsune (Tski) on guitar, Koro, the bassist is a tengu, and drummer is a tanuki. I think that they are into Visual Kei... though Koro doesn't care much for the appearance:)
It seems that for the lack of time the characters of the story are coming to the world in the form of dirty 10-min. sketches, but I thought that Black Cherry is too cute to be a dirty sketch... it'd be unfair to him, so I made a picture:)
As for the inspiration...

Mar. 23rd, 2010 01:18 amKha-Ozu is a secondary character in Zmeifen/Rhianel story. A commoner dark elf warrior wielding a pair of kamas (yes, an Okinawan drow - what? Probably he is Mugen's relative:))
After Zmei left Rhi and took a permanent residence in an Underdark city, he and Kha-Ozu became good pals (after they decided that they nothing to rival about, since Kha-Ozu slightly despise magic while Zmei doesn't care much for mastering weapon skills).
Kha-Ozu is a walking embodiment of chaos, and his element is Electricity.

Anton is back from San Francisco, so I have home more of the craziness then usual.... And I have a belt test today.

Антон вернулся из СанФранциски, поэтому беготни и суеты в доме больше обычного... А у меня тест на пояс сегодня.
